RANTHALUS, PELDER: First Steward of Flowfoam, Master of the Court of the Risen King; a tall, slender, haughty, severe, and magnificently bearded man who orders all royal protocol, speaks first in all debates and at all feasts, and is a dabbler in magic who pretends to far more magecraft than he's truly mastered.
RESSHEVEN of Two Moons: a ruthless, confident, and capable battle-mage, one of the leaders of the Swords of Sirlptar (the other is its only other wizard, Nlorvold).
RIOVRYN, STELGAR: ambitious warrior of Loushoond, who briefly crowns himself King of Aglirta.
ROLDRICK: a former warrior in the service of Silvertree, now a duty guard at the Flagon and the Gauntlet inn in rural Phelinndar.
SARGIN: junior thief of the Bright Blade and Hope of Aglirta adventuring band; openly dresses in black leathers and a black silk mask.
SARR, BODEMMON: one of the two mightiest independent wizards of the Vale (his rival Tharlorn of the Thunders is the other).
Serpent, the: "the Serpent in the Shadows," "the Sacred Serpent," "the Great Serpent," "the Fanged One," a great evil being, formerly a human wizard (name now forgotten; it's thought he worked to purge records of it) who helped enchant the Dwaerindim, but went mad or was mad, and murdered several rival mages to strengthen the Dwaer enchantments; when confronted by the other mages of the Shaping, he fled into serpent-form to fight his way free of their spells-and was imprisoned by them in serpent-shape; now a gigantic serpent bound into Slumber by a mighty magic worked by the King of Aglirta (fated to sleep when he does); worshipped by humans who revere him as divine-and to whom he grants spells.
Serpents, the: worshippers of the Serpent (humans who often become snakelike; they refer formally to themselves as "the Faithful of the Serpent," but others call them "the Cowled Priests," "the Fanged Faithful," "the Scaly Ones," "the Serpent-spawn" and worse; those with snakelike heads and forked tongues are known (not to their faces) as "Hissing Ones."
SHAMURL: warrior and sorceress of the Bright Blade and Hope of Aglirta adventuring band; a grim, scar-faced woman, taller, more burly, and stronger than many men.
SILVERTREE, EMBRA: the Lady of Jewels (so called for her opulent, gem-studded gowns), Lady Baron (Baroness) of Silvertree; a young, beautiful sorceress; member of the Band of Four and daughter of the cruel Faerod Silvertree, who intended her to become a captive "Living Castle."
SILVERTREE, FAEROD: cruel and grasping Baron of Silvertree, who came very close to ruling all Aglirta in The Kingless Land, and survived longer than most Aglirtans thought, ruling for a time as Lord (equivalent to mayor) of the village of Tarlarnastar.
SILVERTREE, THAALEN: long-ago Baron of Silvertree, a wealthy and very paranoid man who hired many wizards to craft Thaalen's Nightguard, an inner stronghold within Silvertree House to which he retreated every night to sleep "properly guarded."
SILVERTREE, TLARINDA: Baroness of Silvertree, mother to Embra and wife of Faerod, one of the most beautiful women in Aglirta; tortured and slain by Faerod for suspected infidelity, whispered to have been the lover of Baron Blackgult.
SKULDUS: a warrior in the service of the Baron Blackgult who becomes one of Bloodblade's Band.
SNOWSAR, KELGRAEL: the Risen King, the Lost King, the Sleeping King, the Sleeper of Legend, the Last Snowsar; King of Aglirta, the Lion of Aglirta, the Crown of Aglirta, Lord of all Aglirta, Master of the River and Its Vale; rightful crowned ruler of Aglirta, a wise and perceptive warrior and wizard who for too long (centuries) slept in a spell-hidden "otherwhere," while warring barons tore his realm apart.
Swords of Sirlptar, the: famous hires word (mercenary) fighting band based in the Glittering City; six veteran armaragors led by two mages (see Kordul, Nlorvold, and Ressheven).
