Vixen Manual - Karrine Steffans [28]

since I often bite off more than I can chew, I sometimes carry unaccomplished tasks over to the next day. This goes on for weeks until most everything is done, yet by the end of the year, there always seems to be a few things still left untouched. It’s usually the little, more tedious chores, like changing the windshield wipers or cleaning out the closet. In December, I put together a list of all those little things that weren’t checked off in my planner throughout the year and make those my end-of-the-year goals. This ensures that I go into my new year unburdened by the year before.

By now, you’re probably saying, What the hell does this have to do with snagging a man, Vixen?! I bought this book for the good stuff, the steamy stuff. Get to the blowjobs and pole dances, already! We will, we will. But before we do all that, we must lay the proper foundation beforehand. Trust me, this will allow you to get whatever you want from a man. More importantly, it will ensure that everything is in place for you to get what you want out of life in general. A good friend once told me, “You can’t build castles in the sky.” I never used to know what this meant, but now it makes so much sense. Without a sturdy foundation, everything you reach for and build will fail.

So read on, ladies, and do so in the spirit of feminine camaraderie. Know that I only want to impart to you the benefit of my wisdom, wisdom I wish someone had shared with me when I was younger. This is especially significant if you are twenty-five or older but haven’t yet figured out where you’re going with your life. While it’s true that it’s never too late, the sooner you get yourself together, the sooner you can begin laying out a plan to, ultimately, realize your dreams.

I’ll use myself for an example here. At the age of twenty-five, I discovered there were bigger, much more pertinent goals in my life that needed to be met, many of which were way overdue. That was the year I knew that there’d be no more excuses for me. I had to make a move for the positive. It was a case of either sinking or daring to swim—with strong, bold strokes. Twenty-five is a very significant age for a woman. It is a critical mile marker of sorts. By this point, most of us have been out of high school for seven years already and may have also graduated from college. You may be married and/or have already had children. You’re a quarter century old!

If you’ve reached this age and you still haven’t figured out what it is you would like to accomplish in the long term or begun to map out how to do so, you’re already operating at a gross disadvantage. If your personality isn’t clearly shaped and your self-esteem is shaky, you’re even more in the hole. Don’t be misled by those around you saying things like, “It’s okay, you’re still young.” People love to throw that phrase around, but those same people will hold you accountable a short time later if your life is still in disarray. Then their judgment will be harsh and unforgiving, filled with comments like “You should have your act together by now.” Time is a commodity. Treat it as such. It is not something to be squandered once you’ve become an adult.

Picture a twenty-five-year-old man living in his mother’s basement, jobless and with no goals or ambition. Now, picture yourself saying to this person, “It’s okay, you’re only twenty-five.” How ridiculous would that be? After twenty-five, there are no more excuses and very little leeway. That’s why this is a good time to come up with a five-year plan, if you haven’t already, and put the wheels in motion to accomplish your bigger, more life-changing objectives.

Vixen Say What?

Crucial topics for your five-year plan should include, but should not be limited to, education, career, family, and physical and even emotional goals.

I believe you should have a clear idea of your life goals as early as high school, but whenever it is that you begin to formulate them, each day should be spent moving forward. These can’t just be casual steps forward. You need to fix it
