Knowing your worth means understanding that phrases like stand down and words like surrender don’t have to mean a loss of self or an abandonment of objectives. I know it can seem hard to do, ladies, but the payoff in knowing when to back off a position can prove very valuable for you in the long term. Let’s say your man loses his head and raises his voice to you in a way that is overbearing and unacceptable. I recommend correcting his mistake without challenging him. By simply remaining calm and speaking to him in a loving, even voice, requesting that he speak to you the same way, he should be able to see himself and his extreme behavior and alter it accordingly. While this may not be effective with every man, never let anyone take you off your mark and sink to his or her level of interaction, if it is not a terrain you are comfortable with. Maintain your composure throughout it all. The even tone of your voice, accompanied by your consistent poise and level head, will call for respect, whereas a volatile temperament will only serve the opposite. If you’ve chosen him carefully, your man knows you. He understands and respects your power and position in his life and does not want to lose either. He knows you don’t need him but is assured of how much you want him, all the while very aware of how lucky he is to have you.
