When Ghosts Speak - Mary Ann Winkowski [102]

with health in some way. Perhaps the best-known such curse is the one said to be on the Kennedy family. Now, I’ve never met a Kennedy, so I can’t tell you for sure if they are cursed, but it just takes one look at the history of that family, particularly the men, to suspect that they are. I have seen curses that cause the firstborn daughters in a family to be barren. I once took a curse off a man who was in his early thirties. His family curse held that the males in every generation died before turning forty. The man’s great-grandfather had died at thirty-eight, his grandfather at thirty-six, two of his uncles in their twenties, and his father at thirty-nine. He didn’t want to take any chances. I removed the generational curse and I’m happy to say that he lived for many years after he turned forty. The interesting thing about generational curses is that they do not take effect until the cursed individual turns eighteen.

Personal Curses

Personal curses can cause bad health. If you take medications on a regular basis, such as those for high blood pressure or heart conditions, a curse can affect how these medications are working and cause adverse effects to your health. The negative energy of a curse can also distort X-rays, MRIs, or other photographic scans of the body. Certain curses, particularly those from the Mediterranean countries, often cause problems such as headaches, dizziness, and vision disturbances.

Curses can cause problems in romance. Haven’t you ever wondered why so-and-so, who’s so terrific, never found the right person to marry? Or why someone has been divorced—from perfectly lovely spouses—multiple times? Curses can send a person spiraling into financial ruin and destroy businesses. Athletes seem to be particularly vulnerable. I have worked with many professional athletes, from baseball players to pro bowlers, to remove negative energy that was having an impact on their careers.

Curses on Objects

Having a cursed object in your possession will have negative effects on you whether the object has been intentionally cursed or simply attracted negative energy by being in the possession of someone who was extremely unhappy, depressed, or sorrowful. After all, rage and envy are not the only negative emotions. If possessing or touching a certain object makes you feel uncomfortable, trust your instincts! People have all sorts of different reactions to negative energy. Some get headaches; others feel queasy or have stomachaches. I have had people tell me that their palms get itchy or sweaty or hot or cold when they touch an object that has negative energy on it. One of the most famous cursed objects is said to be the Hope Diamond. Many of the owners of this legendary stone died suddenly, committed suicide, or endured great tragedy.

Curses on Places or Organizations

Some of the most commonly cursed places are hotels or bed-and-breakfasts and resorts. I think this is because the hospitality industry is so competitive and has such a potential for unhappy customers. If you are staying in a hotel or other place that seems to have negative energy, take the steps outlined in the previous chapter to help protect yourself during your visit. The same is true when house hunting. I do a lot of work for real estate agents. Houses with curses and earthbound spirits can sit on the market forever. If you do find the perfect house, but are worried because you feel that there is negative energy on the property, remember that the house can be fixed. A curse can always be taken off, and a ghost can always be sent away.

Sports teams and their players are other prime targets for curses. Just think of all the energy in the stands when a hometown crowd roots for their team and sends negative energy toward the rival visitors. Sports curses are legendary. There was the Curse of the Bambino in Boston, there is the Billy Goat curse in Chicago, and I’ve no doubt that my hometown teams of the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians are also cursed.

But it is possible to remove a curse from an organization. I once received a late-night
